PURPOSE: To develop and maintain a policy framework for education development and professional services,  ensure quality education delivery in districts,  provide education support and administration services, develop and maintain a policy framework for education development and professional services,  ensure effective, efficient, economical and transparent use of the resources of the department and provide human resource development and support services.

FUNCTIONS:

1. Plan and co-ordinate examinations for GETC, FETC and ABET.

2. Develop, co-ordinate and monitor GET, FET, ELSEN and ABET Curriculum.

3. Establish and maintain an FET and ABET system which provides diversified programmes to meet the needs of individuals and society.

4. Manage and evaluate the performance of education delivery at specified levels and areas of the education system.

5. Manage issues of SYRAC and Values in Education.

6. Deliver education development, professional and support services in the following districts:

    I. Xhariep

    II. Motheo

   III. Lejweleputswa

    IV. Thabo Mofutsanyana

    V. Northern Free State

7. Develop and implement programmes to support learners.

8. Develop and implement an effective and efficient supply chain management system.

9. Co-ordinate and support management, governance and institutional development activities.

10. Provide physical resource planning services including accommodation and property administration.

11. Provide information management including Schools Registration.

12. Ensure the management of Public, Private Partnership.

13. Monitor and evaluate the performance of education delivery at specified levels and areas of the education system.

14. Establish and maintain ABET system which provides diversified programmes to meet the needs of individuals and society.

15. Ensure the effective co-ordination, management and governance of FET colleges.

16. Provide financial business support and risk management services.

17. Manage transactional processing.

18. Manage the departmental assets and fleet and provide office support services

19. Provide human resource management services.

20. Ensure the development and well being of all employees and the organisation as a whole.

21. Provide labour relations and legal services.
