Learner Errors/Omissions

Boarder with No Hostel

• Confirm that the Learner should be a hostel learner and has a Hostel selected under Learner Information.

Possible Wrong Age

• If learner is younger than 2 or older than 30.
• Check against certified copy of ID or birth certificate.

Invalid birth date

• Birth date must have 8 digits of which the last 6 must correspond with first 6 digits of the ID number.
• Check against certified copy of ID or birth certificate.
  
  »»» Tip: If the Birth Date prints red, the day or month is invalid.

Invalid Characters in Name / Surname

• Surname or Firstname can not Contain these Characters: ( ) [ ] < > , . ; :
• Surname or Firstname can not start with an empty space
• Surname or Firstname can not only be one character long
• Surname or Firstname can not contain numbers
  
  »»» Tip: When applicable, add the Nick Name, Second Name, Third Name and Previous Surname in their appropriate respective fields.

Invalid ID/Passport

• Immigrant - The Passport field cannot be empty
• SA Citizen - ID number does not correspond with the formula used by Home Affairs.
• Check against certified copy of ID or Birth Certificate.
  
  »»» Tip: If the ID prints orange, it contains spaces.
  »»» Tip: If the ID prints orange, with nv in-front, Not Validating was selected in SAMS as a No ID Reason, make sure the ID is saved in the ID Number field and SA-SAMS accepts it.

Invalid Race - This was an old SAMS error & no longer occurs, thus no longer checked

• Confirm that one of the available race options is selected under Learner Information.

Invalid LOLT / Paper Language

• Gr4 - Gr12 Learners can only have English or Afrikaans as a LOLT / Paper Language
• Check The Language of Instruction under Learner Inforamtion -> Additional Details
